In the early 1990s, when the United States developed advanced ceramic engines with low thermal expansion and low heat loss, mullite was listed as the main candidate material. The mullite ceramic cylinder head base plate developed in China has been successfully used in desert vehicles, which preliminarily shows that the material has a good application prospect. Mullite composites toughened by aluminosilicate long fibers have been successfully tested and used in the exhaust device of propeller aircraft in Germany; In Japan, mullite ceramic materials were used to make conveyor belts to replace stainless steel conveyor belts in tunnel kilns. Mullite ceramics are also widely applied in metal melting crucibles, high-temperature protection tubes, thermocouple protection tubes and other heat-resistant materials. It is proved that its corrosion resistance to high-temperature gas is better than that of alumina ceramics, and its air tightness is good. As a high-temperature engineering material, mullite ceramics are especially suitable for making high-temperature protection tubes.
